International Day of Yoga
June 21st 2015
Isha Foundation welcomes you to join us for the first International Day of Yoga
The hectic pace of modern life has brought with it an incredible amount of stress and anxiety. Scientific studies show that daily practice of yoga reduces stress, anxiety and depression; increases health, energy and vitality; enhances mental focus and clarity and establishes a sense of peace, joy and deep inner balance. This, in turn, can create a more peaceful and joyous global community around us.
Recognizing this, the United Nations has recently declared June 21st as the ‘International Day of Yoga’. More than 170 countries including Singapore, USA, Canada and China supported this resolution. It had the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA resolution of such nature!
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, together with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, have invited Sadhguru, founder of Isha Foundation, to strategize and plan the celebration of the first IDY in all the Indian Embassies and cultural centers worldwide. It was decided in this meeting that Isha Foundation will support all the Indian Embassies worldwide to offer free yoga workshops, demonstrations and classes on the day of, and the weeks leading to June 21st.
